Webcasts to Provide Professional Development Advice; Online Chats to Complement Informational Series

MENLO PARK, CA -- Beginning April 4, OfficeTeam will launch "Jumpstart Your Career," a monthlong webcast/chat series featuring career enhancement tips and strategies. The audio segments will be broadcast on each Wednesday in April at 7 p.m. EDT. (A schedule is attached.) Each program will be followed immediately by a one-hour chat with Liz Hubler, executive director of OfficeTeam.

The series is presented in celebration of Administrative Professionals Week, April 22-28. OfficeTeam is a leading staffing service specializing in highly skilled administrative professionals.

While most people think about skills enhancement only when they're planning to switch jobs or professions, OfficeTeam recommends ongoing professional development to maximize opportunities for growth and career advancement. The webcast series will focus on four areas: networking, skills-building, workplace protocol and gaining greater visibility on the job.

Some highlights from the OfficeTeam webcasts:

  • Networking Smart:
"When it comes to networking with existing contacts, think long term. Set a goal to establish a community, not simply meet immediate needs. The specific way you build community is by building your contact base - and staying in touch - with people from school, former jobs, past seminars and volunteer work. Don't limit yourself to people only in your field, your local area, or at the same stage in their career as you."

  • Skills: The Most-Wanted List:
"With advancements in technology, the skills hiring managers wanted 10, even five years ago are vastly different from those they want today or will want in the future. But which skills should you learn? It's not enough to say you want to become more computer savvy. You need to identify which specific applications you want to master and then establish a plan."

  • The Art of Workplace Protocol:
"By the art of protocol, we don't mean how to hold your teacup at the country club or introduce foreign diplomats at the White House. Workplace protocol is a roadmap for handling those occasional curve balls your career throws at you. The art of protocol teaches the unspoken rules of your corporate culture, and when to, if ever, break them. These rules are not learned overnight - they're refined over the span of one's entire career."

  • Building Visibility, Gaining Recognition:
"Many people operate under the assumption that if they do good work, recognition will naturally follow. In a perfect world, this would be the case. But in the real world, managers are often too busy to observe who is doing what. They may need help identifying your specific achievements - and that help should come from you."
